U.S. 60 has been repaired and reopened following a May 7 water-main break.

The long-awaited, nearly $200 million, 3-mile-long Tempe Streetcar system, intended to create a more-connected downtown, debuts May 20, and riders get a free ride during its opening year. .

More than 300 service-bound residents of Tempe honored since program began in 2015.

Festivities are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays in May (May 13, 20 and 27) at Tempe Beach Park, 80 W. Rio Salado Pkwy., Downtown Tempe.

United Food Bank, among the recipients of donations, serves more than 228,000 Arizonans in need living in the Southeast Valley.

Passes are available to Tempe and Guadalupe kids, ages 6-18, and are valid July 1 through next June 30.

No time estimate yet for completing work and reopening freeway, according to city.

Have your sedative handy: It’s going to be another dicey weekend on Tempe and West Chandler-area freeways as continuing work brings restrictions and closures.
