Contreras honored for commitment to aiding women in their reach for success

National Bank of Arizona’s Women’s Financial Group has named Tempe insurance entrepreneur Mary Contreras as recipient of its Woman of the Year award.

The award recognizes women who have successfully demonstrated their ability to create a positive impact in the community through professional ethics, community philanthropy and business savvy.

Competition is open to women whose companies are headquartered in Maricopa County or who do business regularly within Maricopa County.

Awards are based on the review of a selection committee comprised of industry leaders and the National Bank of Arizona Women’s Financial Group Advisory Council.

Contreras, owner of Contreras State Farm agency in Warner Century Plaza, Tempe, was honored for her commitment to mentoring women, as well as for her efforts “to build confidence and self-esteem, guide skill improvement initiatives and promote the qualities of integrity, increased knowledge and love among her employees and others with whom she comes in contact.”

She previously was honored with a Tempe Award for Diversity and was a 2009 winner of the Alfred P. Sloan Workplace Award.
