The evening was cool, the audience was enthusiastic, the players were ready and in full dress regalia. It was time for the 11th annual Memorial Day Benefit Concert presented by members of The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps.
Percussion, brass and color guard, 150-plus strong, gathered under the guidance of Director Mark Richardson for another in a series of events designed to help generate funding for the group’s tour to Drum Corps International’s 2013 world championships, being held Aug. 8-10 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Memorial Day event at SRP’s Pera Club venue near Papago Park was a prelude to another youth-musical spectacular, next being held Wednesday, June 19, at Mesa Community College.
