Drivers revving up for Jan. 28 start of NHRA racing season at Firebird

By Dee Myers

Firebird Raceways’ vaunted dragstrip will once again roar to life Jan. 28-30 with the fastest and quickest cars in the world, along with the greatest drivers the sport has to offer.

Some of the biggest names in drag racing--such as 13-time NHRA Funny car champion John Force, 2004 Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher and Tempe’s own Johnny West, working with legend Don “The Snake” Prudhomme--will be testing and tuning in order to prepare for the 2005 NHRA racing season.

The season begins with the Winternationals Feb. 10-13 at Pomona Raceway in California and then returns to Firebird for the Checker, Shucks, Kragen NHRA Nationals Feb. 25-27.

This is the perfect time to get up close and personal with your favorite drivers because, with no pressure to perform, the drivers work in a more relaxed atmosphere so their fans can enjoy more time chatting, getting autographs or asking for that hard-to-get “photo op.”
