‘Run from the Cops’ for a good cause

Tempe residents and runners get a chance to interact with their men and women in blue—and to support their local police department—by taking part in an inaugural Tempe Run from the Cops on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Tempe Town Lake and the Arts Park
The city of Tempe and Tempe Police Foundation are providing a unique opportunity for this match-up of stamina and enthusiasm when the 5K, chip-timed, single-loop run gets under way around the lake at 9 a.m.
Advance registration is $25, which includes a commemorative Run from the Cops t-shirt ($40 day of event). Packet pick-up and registration begin at 7 a.m.
Activities include an event expo with police vehicles, including a SWAT armored vehicle, police motorcycle, squad car and command van.
There’s also a free 1/2K “Fuzz Run” for children 10 and under beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Event proceeds will benefit the Tempe Police Foundation, a nonprofit organization established to support the department’s services and programs by offering increased community support through tax exempt donations to supplement budget allocations.
Past beneficiaries of the group’s efforts have included the K9 Unit, departmental training programs and the families of fallen or injured officers.
“The Tempe Police Foundation is one more way that our community can support the men and women who dedicate themselves every day to keeping the families in our community safe,” said foundation president and former assistant police chief Laura Forbes.
