The 2010 season, which will mark Chandler American Little League’s 22nd year, doesn’t start until spring, but now’s the time to think about getting those young Brandon Webbs signed up.
Registering online through Oct. 31 has its advantages, note league officials, who say early registration saves $10 off the normal rates, which go into effect Nov. 1. Registration is only available online until the actual signup dates are announced.
“Last year we saw about a 15 percent increase in our participation,” said Jeremey Stawiecki, league president.
“Most of it was in our coach pitch division, which we expanded from five to eight teams and really could have had nine teams.”
This year Stawiecki anticipates an even bigger increase, and the organization has been preparing for it by working to get new baseball fields and offering more divisions.
“We are working with the city of Chandler to convert some space next to our fields into a T-Ball and coach pitch field,” said Stawiecki.
“The additional field will allow us to continue to grow the league but keep all of our games at the West Chandler Ball Park.”
A beginning T-Ball division for five- to six-year-olds will be available, providing an educational and fun way to introduce young kids who are just starting out in the sport.
“With the addition of the T-Ball division, we will be able to separate out our six- to eight-year-olds for our coach pitch division,” said Stawiecki.
“In the past, coach pitch included kids from five to eight years old, but now the younger kids will be able to play T-Ball, making our coach pitch division more of a stepping stone for the kids to advance to the minor league.”
