Kyrene school briefs

Later this month, the Kyrene school district will begin a comprehensive analysis of its communications program.

The program will be facilitated by independent auditors and will include 15 to 20 focus groups with a variety of audiences, including multiple groups for Kyrene parents.

The groups—which will last an hour--will take place Aug.29 through Aug. 31. Focus groups will be scheduled during daytime and evening hours to accommodate a variety of schedules.

For more information or to participate, contact Johnny Cruz at (480) 783-4174.

Brisas principal Christie Winkelmann has been appointed principal at Kyrene de las Brisas Elementary School. Winkelmann began her career in education as a special education teacher. She has also served as director of community education and executive director of student services for the Kyrene district.

Board appointee

In July, Maricopa County School Superintendent Sandra Dowling appointed Ross Robb to the vacant seat of the Kyrene Governing Board.

Robb is a partner and chief operating officer at Benton-Robb Development Associates. He also is chairman of the board of the Caitlin Robb Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting Arizona’s children’s cancer programs.

Robb received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the State University of New York and his masters in business administration from the Arizona State University College of Business.

Robb fills the seat vacated by Dr. John Doney, who resigned in June after relocating to New Mexico.
