Stellar Airpark development still unsettled
Residents of Stellar Airpark turned out Feb. 3 to oppose a developer’s plan to build more than 200 homes in the airport’s flight path.
About 75 residents appeared to voice their objections to the plan by Maracay Homes that would require Chandler to modify its general plan before approval could be granted for a proposed 80-plus acre subdivision.
Another group of residents favors the plan, having said earlier that it prefers upscale homes in the area rather than commercial development, for which the property is zoned.
Airpark residents argue that putting more homes into an area where takeoffs and landings occur is simply asking for future problems, including the threat that those operations could be curtailed.
A hearing is scheduled before the Planning Commission on March 19, with that body’s recommendation due to reach the City Council sometime in April.
