Schools OK strategic changes

Two major initiatives that will drive the Kyrene School District’s strategic direction for the next couple of years were discussed at the school board’s Aug. 10 meeting.

Board members approved a number of strategic change initiatives, outlined how the district will monitor performance on each initiative and discussed methods of engaging the public throughout the implementation process.

Initiatives currently under way include a compensation study, development of alternative programs, review of the district’s strategic plan, a K-8 programming study, a strategic resource allocation plan and use of a data warehouse.

Based on the discussions and direction given at a board retreat held in June, Superintendent Maria Menconi shared a preliminary draft of a document including:

• A concise vision statement that states what Kyrene hopes to achieve as a district.
• A mission statement that clearly states how the district will work toward the vision.
