Area schools meet or exceed goals, state audit reveals

Twelve schools in the Kyrene Corridor have been listed among those meeting or exceeding state performance and progress goals, with four earning the “excelling” label.

The Arizona Department of Education released its annual school-labels list based on the state’s accountability system, Arizona Learns.

Nearly 10 percent of all of the excelling schools in Arizona were in the Kyrene School District. In addition, Kyrene had the most excelling and highly performing schools of any elementary school district in Arizona.

The system labels schools annually based on criteria set by such programs as Adequate Yearly Progress and Measure of Academic Progress, along with AIMS test scores.

Labels for all Kyrene district schools (with Kyrene Corridor schools shown in italics):

Excelling: Akimel A-al, Altadeña, Aprende, Centennial, Cerritos, Cielo, Estrella, Kyrene Middle School, Monte Vista, Pueblo, Paloma, Sierra.
Highly Performing: Brisas, Colina, Esperanza, Mariposa, Mirada, Waggoner.

Performing: Lagos, Lomas, Manitas, Milenio, Niños, Norte, Sureño.
