Kids' recycling savvy earns top award in competition

Kyrene de las Brisas Elementary School took first place in the Abitibi Recycling Contest. Over 175 schools and service organizations took part in the event. Each year the students at participate in a recycling project during April in honor of Earth Month.  

The students and community collected 7,974 pounds of recyclable materials which saved over 67 trees, over 27,534 gallons of water, over 1,834 gallons of oil, over 2,325 pounds of air pollution, over 12 cubic yards of landfill space and over 16,145 Kilowatt-hours of energy.

Brisas was awarded the first prize $1000 for school supplies by Abitibi.
