Silver medal for area skater

The Kyrene Corridor’s own rising star in the figure skating world, Douglas Razzano, has added a new notch to his skate-blades.

Having already taken a gold medal last year in the Southwest Pacific Figure Skating Regional Championships, and having placed in the top five in the Intermediate Men category in the U.S. Figure Skating Association’s Junior Nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y., Razzano has now medalled in his first international competition.

The 14-year-old Razzano, who starts ninth grade at Marcos de Niza High School this month, appeared Aug. 1 and 2 at the North American Challenge Skate in Mentor, Ohio.

Competing against skaters from the United States, Canada and Mexico, Razzano, who is coached by former Olympian Doug Ladret, captured the Silver Medal.

Razzano hopes one day to skate in the Olympics.
