Veteran manager named to Chandler top job


Mark Pentz, city manager of Rockville, Md., has been named to the same job in Chandler, succeeding interim manager Pat McDermott. Council members approved a contract with Pentz at their Dec. 15 meeting. His first day will be Jan. 20.

Pentz has been city manager of Rockville, a suburb of Washington, D.C., since June 1998. Prior to that he was city manager of Leavenworth, Kan., for 10 years. He has served in city government since 1976. 

Pentz holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. He also has bachelors and masters degrees in American history from the University of Kansas. 

“I feel that my experience leaves me well prepared to serve a community of Chandler’s size and complexity,” said Pentz. 

“I look forward to the prospect of leading a great city into the future.” Mayor Boyd Dunn said Pentz “brings skills to the city that will make a positive impact.” 

The job pays $157,000 annually.
