Public can view health curriculum

Members of the Kyrene Governing Board have voted to open for 60-day public review the eighth-grade lessons that support Strands 8 and 9 of the Kyrene Expanded Health Curriculum.

The program to be reviewed is “Choosing the Best Life,” described by district officials as an abstinence-focused curriculum.

Resources, including outlines of the lessons and videos used in instruction, are available for viewing and comment at the district office through Aug. 22.
Parents, teachers and community members can view the materials and provide feedback to the Health Steering Committee and the board.

It is recommended that all of the five lessons and accompanying video clips be viewed, which may take 1˝ to 2 hours.

Viewing hours generally range from 8 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but because of interruptions to the schedule as classes draw to a close, anyone planning to visit the district offices is advised to call (480) 783-4175 to confirm.

Kyrene district offices are at 8700 S. Kyrene Road, Tempe.
