Traffic to be restricted on Chandler Boulevard, Kyrene Road as construction winds down

Residents and business owners near Kyrene Road and Chandler Boulevard are being advised of progress on the Kyrene Road Improvement Project and the dates that work will be occurring.

According to Jim Phipps, a spokesman for the Chandler Public Works Department, Kyrene Road was repaved south of Chandler Boulevard prior to the opening of the Santan Freeway in November of last year.

A short section of the new final course of pavement was left off the southbound lanes of Kyrene Road to enable completion of a waterline tie-in that did not occur earlier. This work was delayed because a specialized connector needed to be manufactured.

Several water main valve and manhole adjustments in the Chandler Boulevard/Kyrene Road intersection also are required. It is now time to complete this work.

Traffic Restrictions
The first traffic restriction will require shifting eastbound and westbound Chandler Boulevard traffic to the north side of Chandler Boulevard for the weekend of Friday, March 5 through Monday, March 8. This traffic shift was due to begin Friday at 8 p.m. and be removed by Monday at 5 a.m.

A longer-term traffic restriction involves Kyrene Road south of Chandler Boulevard. Northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted to the east side of Kyrene Road south of Chandler Boulevard to Gila Springs Boulevard. This traffic shift will be removed no later than Friday, March 26.

For safety reasons, left turns onto Commonwealth Avenue and Gila Springs Boulevard from southbound Kyrene Road will be prohibited throughout the construction period.
