Kyrene Athlete of the Week
Alexis Burkhart -- Kyrene Middle SchoolAlexis won the 800- and the 1,600-meter run at the Kyrene Conference Track Meet held April 23. Last year as a sixth grader, Alexis took second place at the District meet in the 800 meters, running a 2:32 and second place in the mile run at District, running a 5:29 where KMS won the District and State Championship.
Alexis took first state in the state meet with a speedy time of 5:22 which also ranked her Nationally in her age group level. She competed May 3 to maintain her title. This year Alexis is undefeated in both events and has already ran times of 2:36 in the 800 and 5:29 in the mile.
Alexis also plays volleyball and soccer for KMS. She played midfield for KMS and helped her team earn second place at the District tournament.
Alexis is on the President’s Honor Roll and carries a G.P.A of 4.0. She is also involved in Students Against Drunk Driving club. In her spare time, she plays club soccer for the Tempe 90 Lady Pros.
