Kyrene Athlete of the Week
Kyrene Middle School: Laura Bohning
Laura Bohning, an eighth grader at Kyrene Middle School, is this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Laura is currently a member of the KMS Track and Field team. She runs the 400- and the 4X 400 relay.
Laura has been a phenomenal athlete during her three years at KMS. She has been a member of the cross country team since sixth grade, where she medaled in the conference meet two of the three years.
Laura also was on the softball team in seventh and eighth grades. As a pitcher she will leave Kyrene with a two-year record of 18 wins, 2 loses and 3 ties. During this time her batting average was .900 and she hit 9 homeruns. Laura has also participated in track since sixth grade.
On top of her athletics at Kyrene, Laura is a member of the East Valley Pride club softball team. Even with this busy athletic schedule, Laura has maintained a 4.0 grade average and continually is on the Principal’s Honor Roll.
Laura is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Laura will be taking her outstanding academic and athletic abilities to Corona del Sol next year.
She has already qualified for the gifted program at Corona. Laura also finds time to volunteer at Kids Voting USA.
Laura thanks her coaches, especially Coach Seawell and Coach Cozzetto, for their hard work and dedication to the Kyrene athletic teams. She would also like to thank her parents for their encouragement and support they have provided her.
Laura will definitely be missed at KMS next year.
We wish her all the best at Corona del Sol in the classroom and on the athletic fields.
