Man, 84, dies, wife injured in robbery at Home Depot

An 84-year-old man died after being run over during a strong-arm robbery Oct. 21 at the Home Depot store, 1155 W. Chandler Blvd.

Chandler police said Elvis Johnson and his wife, Vivienne, also in her 80s, were returning to their car after shopping when they were approached by a Hispanic male who grabbed the woman’s purse.

The woman’s husband struggled with the suspect, who was attempting to get away with the purse. The suspect ran over the husband during the getaway, critically injuring him.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5-7 to 5-8 tall, medium build, approximately 30 years old, wearing a light colored polo-type shirt and light colored pants.

He was driving a late model, dark color four-door Toyota Corolla or similar type vehicle with tinted windows. The vehicle could possibly have low impact damage after having run over the victim.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130.
