Goronkin to represent state on U.S. cities economic development council

Tempe City Council member Pam Goronkin will be representing Arizona on the Community and Economic Development Committee of the National  League of Cities, the league recently announced.

"Gathering information on how other communities are involved in economic  development can only make us better," Goronkin said.

"I'm  really pleased to have this opportunity to learn more for the benefit of  Tempe."

Goronkin is serving her first four-year term on the council, following her election in May 2002.

She is the chair of  Tempe's Finance and Diversity Issues Council Committee and a member of the  Tourism and Economic Development Council Committee. Goronkin also is a  member of the Steering Committee for the Tempe Center for the Arts and the  Kiwanis Club of Tempe.

"Pam's selection to this committee is a reflection of her long-standing  commitment to Tempe and her diverse background as a successful business  owner," Tempe Mayor Neil Giuliano said.

"Pam's understanding of economic  development and its importance to a healthy community will make her a  valuable member of the committee."

The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national  organization representing municipal governments throughout the United  States.
