Kajukenbo AZ’s Hula Halau Program to Perform at Aloha Festival March 9-10

March 9, 2013 - March 10, 2013

Chandler/Gilbert, AZ-Can’t afford to go to Hawaii on your Spring Break this year? We have the next best thing right here in the valley! Meet Kajukenbo Arizona, a martial arts dojo specializing in traditional Martial Arts, CrossPIT Fitness, Hula Instruction, and Self Defense at the Arizona Aloha Festival. The 19th Annual family-focused event is set for March 9-10 2013 from 10 am to 5 pm.

A free event for all ages at Tempe Beach Park, the festival spotlights Pacific Islander cultures with three stages of entertainment, 100 vendor booths of island foods, arts, crafts and more. The Kaju AZ Hula Team will be performing on March 9 on the Mountainside stage at 1:15 pm and on the 10th on the Lakeside stage at 2 pm.

Students in Kaju AZ’s Hula Halau program worked many weeks on the dances they will present and made their own costumes. Each dance tells a story and is taught by the amazing talented Sifu Dolly Abad.  Sifu Dolly has been dancing her entire life.  In Hawaiian culture, the hula is more than just dancing. Hula represents a cultural system that celebrates historical events and places, ancestral beings and cherished relations, and natural manifestations of life forces that nurture and sustain Hawaiian people. Sacredness permeates much hula, as well as much of the work associated with creating, teaching, and performing hula.

Kajukenbo Arizona is starting new sessions of their hula classes at their two locations in the valley:

In Mesa/Tempe at 101 & Baseline: 2602 W Baseline Rd, #1, Mesa, Arizona 85202

In Gilbert/Chandler at Chandler Heights & Recker: 3978 E Chandler Heights Rd, #101,Gilbert, Arizona 85298
