‘District’ system would fix lack of representation in west Chandler, resident says

West Chandler resident Brent Fine thinks his city should take a lesson from neighboring Mesa and elect city council members from the neighborhoods in which they live.

Fine contacted Chandler officials last month suggesting the city adopt the so-called district system of electing council representatives. Such a change would give west Chandler residents a voice in the decision-making process, which Fine says they lack under the present at-large system.

He says no elected officials live west of the Price Freeway and therefore haven’t adequately represented the needs of people living in that area.

Mayor Boyd Dunn says Fine’s request will be among topics discussed at an informal city council retreat this fall.
