S’no foolin’

No, you’re not seeing things. That white stuff on the ground isn’t a truckload of spilled marshmallows. It’s Tempe’s annual celebration of Downtown Cooldown, a fun-filled day designed to help kids forget it’s r-e-a-l-l-y h-o-t outside.

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, Tempe Beach Park will be filled with water games, water slides and a sight not often seen in the Valley--snow.

Fifty tons of the cold, fluffy stuff will be brought in for the APS Downtown Cooldown, presented by Joseph Enterprises so that children of all ages can play and frolic despite triple-digit temperatures.

In addition to many, fun activities, a number of vendors will be on hand, including Bright Star Promotions, which provides KidSafe IDs, do-it-yourself fingerprint, DNA kits and a unique identification pendant.

Tempe Beach Park is located just north of downtown Tempe on the corner of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Drive.
