Businesses get tips on how to make schools more successful

A variety of topics, including how local businesses can play a more active role in the success of the area’s educational system, will be featured at a Monday, Nov. 18 panel discussion sponsored by the Tempe Chamber of Commerce.

The luncheon session will be at 11:30 a.m. at Holiday Inn Phoenix  ASU/Tempe, 915 E. Apache Blvd.
Panel members will be Dr. John Baracy, superintendent of the Tempe Elementary School District; Dr. Maria Menconi, superintendent of the Kyrene School District; and Dr. James Buchanan, superintendent of the Tempe Union High School District.

A question-and-answer period will follow the discussion.
“One of the top factors a business considers before moving into a community is the strength of its school system,” said Tempe Chamber President/CEO Mary Ann Miller.

“The students of today are the workforce of tomorrow.”
Of the 53 schools in the Tempe Elementary, Kyrene and Tempe high school districts, only four were labeled as “underperforming,” according to the Arizona Department of Education.
“We’re lucky to have the superintendents from all three school districts which serve Tempe on the same panel,” said Miller.

Cost of the luncheon is $20 for Tempe Chamber members, $25 for non-members. Information: (480) 967-7891 or www.tempechamber.org.
