Event to raise funds for longtime resident suffering from lymphoma

By Jean Hagen

Erica Petroff is a 21-year-old graduate of Corona del Sol High School, Aprende Middle School and Mariposa Elementary School.

She attends ASU, where she is pursuing a career in journalism. She was diagnosed in April 2004 with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Her treatments have included two rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. She currently is receiving radiation therapy. Erica has tremendous support from her family, fiancé and friends.

To aid Erica and her family in her recovery, the Aprende Performing Arts Boosters group is sponsoring a dinner celebration at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The Corona del Sol Steel Drum Band will perform, and there will be a silent auction. The event provides an opportunity to enjoy great food and a fun community activity, while at the same time offering support to a deserving and courageous young woman.

Proceeds will go to Erica and her family. Ticket prices are $5 for children 12 and under, $10 for those 13 and older.

Deadline for ticket purchase is Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tickets may be purchased at either the Aprende office; through Mrs. Werner, the band teacher at Aprende; or Scott Werner, percussion teacher at Corona.

Monetary donations will also be gratefully accepted at the Aprende office from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
