Chandler’s downtown community center gets a new look

Chandler’s newly remodeled downtown Community Center will be officially rededicated by Mayor Jay Tibshraeny and City Council members in a public ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10.
The center, at 175 E. Commonwealth Ave., has been a fixture in the downtown area since it opened 26 years ago.
With rentable multipurpose rooms and an open courtyard, it has hosted many of the city’s recreation classes and has been a popular location for various special events, including weddings, receptions and traditional Quinceañeras.
The remodeling of the 2,600-square-foot courtyard will improve the facility’s functionality and enhance its rental appeal, according to recreation manager Barbara Young.
In addition to a new paint scheme, the area features a performance stage, bench seating, umbrella-covered tables and chairs. The old courtyard’s water feature was removed to provide more usable space. Landscaping was redesigned and lighting was improved. The $314,000 project was completed in six months by the contractor, SDB Inc.
