Police seeking public’s help in solving pair of supermarket bank holdups

Police continue to seek the public’s help in identifying and locating a suspect in the Thursday, Oct. 4, robbery of a U.S. Bank branch inside the Safeway store at McClintock Drive and Elliot Road, Tempe.
The robbery occurred at approximately 5:36 p.m. following the suspect’s purchase of an item before entering the bank branch.
The suspect was carrying a black, zippered folder and gave a demand note with a Safeway grocery bag to the teller after displaying a silver/black handgun. He fled with a known amount of cash. The same suspect is believed to have committed a robbery the day before at a Compass Bank branch inside the Albertson’s grocery store at 4060 W. Ray Road, Chandler.
The suspect is described as a clean-shaven Hispanic male approximately 30 years old, 5-foot-8, 240 pounds wearing prescription glasses, a maroon ASU hat and yellow long-sleeve ASU shirt.
Tempe Detectives are working with other law enforcement agencies to identify, locate and make an arrest in the case.
