“I think technology is the future,” Brown said. “I think the more teachers and students are experienced with technology, the more it’s going to allow the students to grow in their educational experiences.”

Brown, current assistant principal and registrar at Marcos de Niza High School, was recommended to the Tempe Union board in late April.

“I’ve done so many different things in my past 18 years in education,” Brown said. “I just wanted the opportunity to blend all of those experiences together and use those skills.”

Brown, who will assume his role as Corona principal in June, has held numerous teaching positions at Marcos, including foreign language teacher, track coach, summer school Spanish teacher, drop-out coordinator, assistant principal of activities and summer school principal.

Brown said he has also worked with current Corona staff members in the past.

“I think they’re wonderful people,” he said.

Brown said his experience in teaching, coaching high school sports and having a background in music and fine arts has prepared him for his new position.

“I really plan on working with morale and energizing the faculty,” he said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about Corona, and that’s a large part of my excitement.”

In terms of future educational techniques, Brown said he anticipates positive changes on the horizon.

Brown said after working in high schools for years, he is familiar with “all the intricacies of what’s going on in the school.” He said he plans on working with all students to accommodate any opportunity that will help them succeed in learning.

“Every single student has the opportunity to be successful,” Brown said. “My ultimate goal is to make Corona the best high school in Arizona.”
